When renovating this 1803 Charleston, Betsy and her team focused on classic, clean-lined interiors that both complement and balance the grand architectural details of this classic home. The showstopper is a large, curvaceous living room with intricate ceiling moldings that frame a contemporary X fixture—a mix of classic and au courant that carries throughout the home.

The renovation was extensive. Though the home had previously been divided into office spaces, its historical elements had been largely untouched. Betsy ensured that those details were maintained, and even highlighted, in the restoration.

A dark-and-moody dining room swathed in aubergine Gracie tea paper with touches of pale, icy blue acts as a colorful palette cleanser between more neutral spaces.

The home feels both rooted in history and completely of today. “It’s as if the world stops when you step inside,” says Berry.

In the primary bedroom, Berry leaned into a more masculine palette, with dark gray silk wallpaper and a wrapped leather four-poster bed complemented by velvet-clad chairs.
